FLOYD COUNTY, KY – A status hearing was held October 29 in Floyd Circuit Court for James Hunt, a 77-year-old Floyd County death row inmate seeking a new trial. Special Judge Kevin Holbrook, newly assigned to the case, noted it’s stalled since 2016, as Hunt continues to challenge his conviction for the 2004 shooting death of his wife, Bettina. Attorneys discussed missing files and unresolved motions, with the prosecutor and defense disagreeing on the exchange of key documents. Another hearing is set for February 4, 2026, to determine next steps.
