Pikeville, Ky – A Pike County woman has pleaded guilty in federal court to meth possession with intent to distribute. Jodi Nichols, 48, was indicted earlier this year after police found more than 50 grams of meth in her vehicle on the Mountain Parkway in May. Nichols now faces a mandatory minimum of five years and up to 40 years in prison, with sentencing set for February 12.
Paintsville, Ky – A Paintsville woman is facing felony charges after allegedly selling marijuana and alcohol to a minor. According to police, 32-year-old Shasta Daniels, of the Budget Inn, sold a marijuana joint and alcohol to a child on October 29. Daniels was arrested the next day and charged with second-degree unlawful transaction with a minor. She remains lodged at the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center, according to court records.
Prestonsburg, Ky – The Prestonsburg Tourism Commission announced it’s moving its office from the Mountain Arts Center back to the city’s former welcome center at 361 North Lake Drive. Tourism Executive Director Lauren McCoart says the move is a “full-circle moment” and will better serve both visitors and locals as tourism continues to grow. The building, now owned by Floyd County Fiscal Court, was most recently used as an attorney general’s field office. An opening date is yet to be set, but officials expect it to be open by year’s end.
Inez, Ky – A Lovely man faces multiple charges after a traffic stop in Martin County. On November 5, Deputy J.C. Kirk arrested 44-year-old James Richard Maynard at Taylor’s Trailer Park. Maynard was pulled over on KY 292 for expired tags and admitted to having marijuana, leading deputies to find both marijuana and a bag of 11 orange pills. He’s also charged with possession of a controlled substance, driving on a suspended license, and no registration.
