Floyd County, Ky – A Floyd County teen has been sentenced to eight years in prison for a 2024 shooting at the Pikeville Parking Garage. Eighteen-year-old Brandon Poston pleaded guilty to second-degree assault and possession of a handgun by a minor. He was sentenced by Special Judge Thomas Smith on November 14, following a shooting last October where officers responded to shots fired and found one victim at Pikeville Medical Center. Poston, who has been in custody since May, was identified as the suspect after fleeing the scene.

 

Pikeville, Ky – Over $7 million is coming to help first responders across Eastern Kentucky. Congressman Hal Rogers secured nearly $4 million to build a new Pikeville Police Department and more than $3 million for a combined Louisa Fire and emergency facility. Pikeville Mayor Jimmy Carter says the new station will improve public safety and make room for their growing force. Louisa Mayor Harold Slone says their new facility will bring emergency services together under one roof for better response. Construction is expected to take two years, and Congressman Rogers says these upgrades will help first responders better serve our region.

 

Pike County, Ky – Two Louisville men are facing charges after police say they trafficked over three pounds of meth in Pike County. Officers arrested Andrew Billingslea and Jonathan Jones on Sunday after a witness reported an illegal sale. Police stopped the men at a Pikeville gas station, where a K-9 alerted them to drugs in both vehicles. Authorities found a Ziploc bag containing about 3.2 pounds of suspected meth. Both men were taken to the Pike County Detention Center and charged with first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance.

 

Pikeville, Ky – Kentucky Power is proposing a nearly 15 percent rate increase for residential customers, with public hearings set to get community feedback. The first meeting takes place November 20 at 5 p.m. at the Pike County Public Library in Pikeville, followed by sessions in Hazard and Ashland. The increase could boost the company’s yearly revenue by $96 million, affecting homes and businesses across eastern Kentucky. Public comments can also be submitted to the PSC’s website under case 2025-00257.
