Floyd County, Ky – Troopers with Kentucky State Police are investigating after finding a woman unresponsive in Floyd County. Officers responded to a call from Prestonsburg 911 Friday and discovered 35-year-old Sarah Slone of Beaver in the 1400 block of Kentucky Route 979. Investigators say Slone suffered a deadly gunshot wound and was pronounced dead by the Floyd County Coroner’s Office. Her body has been sent for autopsy as the investigation continues.
Floyd County, Ky – A Floyd County woman was sentenced to six years in prison for her role in a 2021 murder case. Fifty-two-year-old Buffy Morgan of Prestonsburg pleaded guilty to abuse of a corpse connected to the death of Paul Setser of Auxier. Setser was reported missing in January 2022 and later found dead in Johnson County. Morgan was also sentenced on firearms charges, while co-defendant James Pratt died earlier this year before facing trial.
Pikeville, Ky – Four people were hospitalized Friday evening after a two-vehicle crash on US 23 near the Double Kwik on South Mayo Trail. Police say traffic backed up in the southbound lane, with northbound drivers rerouted through the Double Kwik lot as crews cleared the area. Three car passengers and a truck driver were taken to Pikeville Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. Witnesses report the car pulled out in front of the truck before the crash.
Pike County, Ky – Two men were sentenced in Pike Circuit Court for drug-related offenses. Tyrone Davis of Williamson, West Virginia, received 10 years after pleading guilty to trafficking fentanyl and a related firearm charge—his sentences will run concurrently. In a separate case, Austin Matney of Feds Creek was sentenced to five years for trafficking fentanyl. Both cases followed recommendations from the Commonwealth’s Attorney, and both men remain in Pike County Detention Center.
