Johnson County, Ky – Two people are dead after a two-vehicle crash on Kentucky Route 321 in the Hager Hill community of Johnson County.​ State Police say it happened just after one-thirty Thursday afternoon, and the road was shut down for hours.​ Troopers say a Buick driven by Retina Meek crossed the center line and hit a Chevrolet pickup driven by Jason Kinner.​ Retina Meek and her passenger, Anita Meek, were taken to hospitals and later died from their injuries.​ Kinner was transported to a nearby hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries. State Police are still investigating.

Pike County, Ky – A Pike County couple has pleaded guilty in a child abuse case that doctors compared to torture. Prosecutors say 44-year-old Jerome Norman and 43-year-old Mary Hall of Raccoon entered blind Alford pleas to one count of first-degree abuse and two counts of second-degree abuse. The case began in January 2025, when staff at the child’s school noticed serious injuries and signs of malnourishment after an extended break from classes. Investigators say the boy was often denied food as punishment, kept in a dark bedroom with locks on the outside, and later went into cardiac arrest after being removed from the home. Doctors at UK Hospital reported he was unable to keep down solid food and showed signs consistent with torture. Norman and Hall now face a possible sentence of 10 to 20 years in prison, with formal sentencing set for April 10.

Prestonsburg, Ky – Three Perry County teens face charges after Prestonsburg Police stopped a speeding pickup and found the driver drunk and using a fake ID. Officers say a Ford F‑150 was clocked at 101 miles an hour in a 45 zone on Kentucky 114 and was “all over the roadway.”​ Police say 19‑year‑old James Landon Sullivan of Hazard admitted he had “too much to drink” and blew a .166 on a breath test, with two underage passengers in the truck.​ Sullivan, 18‑year‑old Matthew Hayden Caige Richie, and 19‑year‑old Arianna Faith Daniels all face alcohol‑related charges.

Phelps, Ky – A Phelps man faces multiple charges after State Police say he threatened his wife and walked around their home with a gun during a domestic dispute.​Troopers say 72‑year‑old Ronald W. Coots was arrested March 13 at a home on Mingo Street and is charged with burglary, wanton endangerment, unlawful imprisonment, terroristic threatening, menacing and a prescription drug offense.​Investigators say his wife told dispatch he was trying to kill her, and that he forced his way inside through a window while searching for her, leaving blood throughout the home before he was treated at Pikeville Medical Center and taken to the Pike County Detention Center.
