Martin, Ky – The Martin City Council has announced the termination of Police Chief Michael Cagle. At a meeting Tuesday night, council members said Mayor Sam Howell, who was absent due to work obligations, had already signed Cagle’s termination letter and that the decision was his alone. The move comes about a month after Cagle was appointed chief and two weeks after he joined other first responders in public protests, accusing the mayor of years of mistreatment and misconduct and calling for his resignation. Cagle did not attend the meeting, and several community members questioned both his and the mayor’s absence.
