Prestonsburg, Ky – Two firefighters have been injured while battling an active forest fire in Floyd County, according to Team Kentucky’s Division of Forestry. One firefighter was treated and released from a local hospital, while the other was airlifted to Cincinnati for more serious injuries after a sudden shift in the fire’s pattern. The Division of Forestry says crews remain on scene working on a roughly 95‑acre fire, but nearby residents are not currently believed to be at risk.

Floyd County, Ky – Kentucky State Police are asking for help finding a missing Floyd County man. Troopers say 30‑year‑old Asa Chasteen was last seen in the Martin community walking toward City Hall, and his current whereabouts are unknown. Chasteen is described as 6‑foot‑2, about 180 pounds, and was last seen wearing tan pants and a black sweatshirt. Police say he has autism and an impulse control disorder, requires medication, and may be vulnerable. Anyone with information is asked to call KSP Post 9 at 606‑433‑7711.

Betsy Layne, Ky – A Virginia man is facing DUI and assault charges after a crash on U.S. 23 at Betsy Layne. Deputies say 23‑year‑old Carter Ferrell Willey of Wise, Virginia, was involved in an injury collision on March 25 and showed signs of intoxication, including the smell of alcohol and slurred speech. Witnesses told investigators he had been driving, and a breath test showed a blood alcohol level of point‑two‑zero‑four, more than double the legal limit. Deputies say an open liquor bottle was found on the driver’s side floorboard, and Willey is charged with second‑offense DUI, traffic offenses, and first‑degree assault for allegedly showing extreme indifference to human life by causing a crash that seriously injured the victim.

Pike County, Ky – A Pike County man is facing drug trafficking and gun charges after state police responded to a drug complaint in the Marrowbone area. Troopers say they went to a home on Left Fork of Dry Fork on March 29, got a search warrant, and found 53‑year‑old resident Homer Dwayne Hill inside with others. During the search, they reported finding suspected drugs, marijuana, a loaded revolver, baggies, digital scales, and multiple phones. Hill, a convicted felon, denied trafficking and denied knowing about the gun, but was taken to the Pike County Detention Center on trafficking and handgun charges.
