Paintsville, Ky – Kentucky State Police say the Critical Incident Response Team is investigating an officer‑involved shooting that happened early Sunday in Paintsville. Troopers say a Paintsville Police officer spotted a stolen motorcycle, then later encountered the suspected rider, 37‑year‑old Shawn Gayheart of Salyersville, who ran and was involved in a physical struggle with the officer. A second officer arrived, and investigators say both officers fired their weapons, then immediately rendered aid until EMS took Gayheart to Pikeville Medical Center, where he is listed in stable condition. Police say a knife was found at the scene and the investigation is ongoing.

Pike County, Ky – A Pike County couple has been sentenced to prison for abusing three children in their care. Prosecutors say Mary Hall took custody of her sister’s children after their mother died, then moved them to Pike County in 2023 when she began a relationship with Jerome Norman. Staff at Kimper Elementary noticed bruises and severe hunger, and a complaint to Kentucky State Police led to an investigation. Investigators say the kids were kept in a locked, boarded‑up room, forced to do labor and punished by withholding food. A judge gave both Hall and Norman 20 years.

Floyd County, Ky – Police are investigating after a Floyd County woman was attacked and killed by a dog Sunday afternoon in Maytown. It happened just after 3 p.m. along Railroad Street, where Coroner Greg Nelson says a woman in her 60s was found dead; her name has not yet been released. Nelson says the dog was a German shepherd owned by someone else and believes the animal was taken into custody by animal control. Floyd County sheriff’s deputies also responded, and Sheriff John Hunt says deputies first got the call as a report of a woman’s body found in the street. The case remains under investigation.

Magoffin County, Ky – Two Magoffin County men are now under federal indictment, less than a month after a drug raid led to their arrests. Thirty‑four‑year‑old Eddie McFarland of Lakeville and 38‑year‑old Anthony Darrell Saylor of Salyersville are charged with conspiracy to distribute and distribution of controlled substances. McFarland also faces a gun charge, while Saylor is charged with possession with intent to distribute. Investigators say the case grew out of undercover buys and a search that turned up meth, fentanyl, heroin and guns.
