Letcher County, Ky – Kentucky State Police arrested two people after an early-morning standoff in Letcher County. Troopers were called to a home on Buck Road around 4:12 a.m. Friday for a reported domestic dispute. Investigators say 36-year-old Dusty Shell of Emmalena barricaded himself inside the home with a weapon before later surrendering to the KSP Special Response Team without incident. Shell is charged with second-degree assault – domestic violence, terroristic threatening, and a parole violation, and was taken to the Letcher County Jail. Also arrested was 45-year-old Amy Griffith of Hindman, who was taken to the Letcher County Jail on an unrelated out-of-state warrant.

Warfield, Ky – A trespassing investigation at Warfield Elementary School has led to four arrests tied to vehicle vandalism at Dempsey Housing. Martin County Schools Police say 18-year-olds Ashley Maynard of Warfield and Ethan Howard of Lovely were arrested May 13 at Martin County High School, and later 19-year-old Kadence Hale of Inez and 20-year-old Brett Blevins of Beauty were arrested on the same charges. Investigators say the group jumped a locked fence at the school playground, then later vandalized vehicles at Dempsey Housing, including slashing tires and tampering with a gas tank.

Pikeville, Ky – A Floyd County woman is facing multiple charges after Pikeville Police say she drove at extremely high speeds with an unrestrained child in the car. Officer Jonathan Ray was working a wreck on U.S. 23 on May 12 when he spotted a car approaching at a high rate of speed with flashers on, honking and nearly causing more crashes before speeding past the scene. Ray says he reached 105 miles per hour to stop 44‑year‑old Amanda Moore and found a child standing unrestrained in the back seat. Moore reportedly refused offers for EMS and was cited for endangering the welfare of a minor, second‑degree wanton endangerment, failure to use a child restraint device, and reckless driving.

Louisa, Ky – A Lawrence County woman has died following a two-vehicle crash near Wal-Mart in Louisa. Deputies say it happened around 11:43 Thursday morning on KY 32 at Blair’s Way, when 53-year-old Shonda Osborne of Louisa, driving west, moved to enter the turning lane and collided with the utility trailer of an eastbound vehicle driven by 28-year-old Michael Stevens of Huntington, West Virginia. Osborne had to be extricated by the Louisa Fire Department and was taken by Patriot Ambulance to Three Rivers Medical Center, where she was later pronounced dead. Stevens was treated at the scene. The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office says the crash remains under investigation by Deputy James Ward.
