Kindergarten Enroll Age Cutoff Moving Up Two Months

The age cutoff to enroll children in Kindergarten will be moving up two months next year. Beginning with the 2017-18 school year, children will have to be age 5 on or before August 1 to be eligible for kindergarten. The August 1 cutoff has already been implemented with preschool, with children age 4 on or before the date. The change is a result of House Bill 235, passed in July 2014. Some exceptions to the rule will be children currently in preschool with an Individualized Education Program and turning five between August 2 and October 1. The decision will be made by the local school system.
