Paintsville City Mayor Resigns

Mayor Robert Porter of Paintsville has resigned.  At the regular meeting of the Paintsville City Council, Mayor Porter delivered copies of his letter of resignation to the council and read it aloud. The mayor was met with applause and support from many community members at the meeting. The resignation comes after Porter was found guilty on federal charges of bribery and theft of city funds. Under KY Statute 67C.105, in case the office of mayor becomes vacant by resignation, the city council has 30 days from the date of the vacancy to appoint a qualified candidate to fill the position until an election can be held. If they do not elect a person to fill the vacancy, the Governor will appoint a qualified person. The resignation will be effective at 12 pm Sunday, November 13.
