The people have spoken and Donald J. Trump will be the 45th President of the United States. Results are still pending for Minnesota, Michigan, and New Hampshire, but Trump has already exceeded the 270 electoral votes needed to secure the presidency with 289. Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has so far received 218 electoral votes. In his victory speech, Trump said Clinton called to congratulate him. In Kentucky, Trump held a strong lead with 1.2 million votes of the 1.9 million cast.
In other election results, Republican Senator Rand Paul held his seat against Democratic challenger Jim Gray. US Representative Hal Rogers ran unopposed to be re-elected to the House of Representatives, as did Johnny Ray Turner in the State Senate. House Speaker Greg Stumbo lost his bid for re-election for 95th District State Representative to Republican Larry Brown. Stumbo conceded the victory to his opponent last night, then taking to twitter to congratulate Brown and thanked the people of the 95th district for his career, wishing the best for the district and the Commonwealth.
