On Monday, Attorney General Andy Beshear announced the transfer of nearly $2.8 million in the state General Fund from his office’s Volkswagen settlement. The German automaker paid the civil penalties for violating Kentucky’s Consumer Protection Act. Beshear said the money may be spent on priorities that better serve the citizens of Kentucky. The attorney general added that various settlements with the company could produce more than $100 million in restitution to the state and impacted consumers. The Commonwealth may also be eligible for more than $19 million in environmental damages from an Environmental Mitigation Trust funded by Volkswagen.
