Attorney General Andy Beshear has released a statement that he will not be supporting the House Bill 2 and Senate Bill 5, which was passed into law this week. The Bills require an ultrasound and explanation before an abortion is performed and a ban after 20 weeks of pregnancy. Beshear said the laws are unconstitutional based on his office’s review of numerous federal appellate rulings, which similar statutes were ruled illegal under numerous Supreme Court decisions. The attorney general said he will defend agencies sued over the bills that seek their representation. Governor Bevin responded to the statement saying Beshear is once again refusing to do his job and that he will do it for him by defending these pro-life bills.
