At 8:40pm, January 13, Bell County Sheriff’s Deputies Nick Capps and Christopher Barnes, along with emergency personnel, responded to an accident on Highway 25E near Faith Temple Church. The deputies arrived on the scene to find a flipped orange Chevy Cobalt in the median. The driver was identified as Demetric Lafayette Washington,31, of Cumberland, who smelt strongly of alcohol. Washington had slurred speech and difficulty standing on his own power. He told Deputy Capps that he had been driving at least 80 miles per hour when he lost control of the vehicle. Washington was charged with careless driving, failure to produce insurance card, DUI, and open container.
