Beshear Outlines Work of Attorney General’s Office to Promote Government Transparency

In an effort to promote government transparency, Attorney General Andy Beshear released information to the public Friday on the work of his Office of Civil and Environment Law in 2016. The information was requested from the Attorney General’s Office by two letters from Governor Matt Bevin on February 2. The information showed the Office of Civil and Environmental Law received just over $2 million of general fund, and returned nearly $20 million directly to the state, secured a possible $85 million in restitution to Kentuckians, and ensured a $90 million payment from the Tobacco Settlement fund in 2016. Beshear said his offices continues to take a “workhorse mentality” to protect Kentuckians across the state.
