Attorney Beshear Joins Other Egg Producing States to Have Shell Egg Laws Reviewed

Attorney General Andy Beshear announced Thursday, February 16, that he would be joining with egg-producing states Alabama, Iowa, Missouri, Nebraska, and Oklahoma to ask the U.S. Supreme Court to review a decision that upheld California’s “Shell Egg Laws.” As the country’s largest consumer of eggs, California has laws and regulations prescribing standards for the conditions chickens be kept in order for producers to sell eggs in the state. Representatives of the states argue that the laws hurt agriculture in their states and violate the Commerce Clause, which regulates trade between states and foreign nations.
