A vote could come as early as this week on a Kentucky House Bill to allow charter schools. And the state’s largest business organization is urging its passage. The Kentucky Chamber of Commerce is adding its voice to calls for passage of the compromise charter schools bill. Kentucky is one of just seven states that does not allow charter schools and chamber president David Adkisson says that needs to change. Adkisson says education is the top strategic priority of the chamber due to its importance to a first class workforce. The bill would allow local school boards to grant charters subject to appeal to the state board of education. Adkisson says charter schools could help reduce Kentucky’s achievement gap by reaching underperforming students in non-traditional ways.
