On Friday, March 31, a federal jury convicted five former owners of PremierTox, a clinical laboratory in Russell Springs, KY, of seventeen counts of health care fraud, each. The defendants, Drs. Bryan Wood, Robin Peavler, and Robert Betram, Jr., along with Brian Walters and James Wesley Bottom,   were acquitted on various other counts that alleged related conduct. The seventeen counts of conviction related to medically unnecessary urine drug tests, which were submitted to health insurers for the purpose of defrauding them. Evidence established PremierTox prioritized testing based on eligibility for reimbursement from particular insurance companies. Sentencing is scheduled for August 9, 2017.
