The Laurel County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a phone scam that is circulating in the Laurel County area. Allegedly, the caller, identifying himself as a person representing a utility company, is telling businesses they have not received proper credit for payments made on their utilities. In one instance, a business was advised they owed $1500 in utility payments that were not processed properly and advised to buy green dot cards to pay for back utility bills. The Laurel County Sheriff’s Office advises citizens and businesses to never give out personal identifying information never send money to questionable sources.
