The Kentucky Public Service Commission on May 2, 2017, ordered that the proposed transfer of ownership and control of the Southern District Wastewater System and portions of the Southern District Water System to Prestonsburg is approved. The transfer is the very positive end result of several months of talks between the management and boards of Southern Water and Prestonsburg City Utilities Comission with the overall emphasis on providing the best utility services to the citizens of Floyd County. The transaction involves the transfer of the ownership, operation, and maintenance of all of the sewer assets and customers from Southern to Prestonsburg, including systems in Wayland, Eastern and Betsy Layne/Harold communities. An official press conference will be announced at a later date.
