Bell County Man Injured In Attempted Robbery

A Bell County man is recovering from a robbery in downtown Middlesboro on Saturday night. Kenneth Williams attempted to steal the cell phone of Corey McCullough after he thought McCullough was talking to police officers. While walking along Cumberland Avenue, Williams tried to get the phone and as McCullough struggled to hold onto it, he was dragged by the car Williams was in and his hand was run over during the incident. Williams and McCullough did know each other and Lieutenant Tom Busic saw the incident take place. While McCullough acknowledged why the incident is considered a robbery, he wonders why Williams has not been charged with assault. He says if Lt. Busic had not been there, he believes he would have been killed. Williams also faces three charges of criminal possession of counterfeit money.
