A Morehead television station is being fined for operating without a license. Vearl Pennington and Michael Williamson, operators of TV10 in Morehead, KY, were proposed the maximum fine of $144,344 by the Federal Communications Commission for operating the unlicensed low power television station for nearly 20 years. Pennington once held a license for the station, but failed to renew it before it expired on August 1, 1998. He has operated the station since that time without a license, and had been notified earlier this year to cease operations by the Commission’s Enforcement Bureau. In the FCC’s notice sent to Pennington and Williamson, it said their lack of disregard for the Commission’s instructions warranted a significant penalty. According to the notice, they have 30 days to pay the penalty.
