Kyle Busch made a huge step towards joining this year’s Chase for the Sprint Cup by winning on the Sonoma road course yesterday in California. The driver of the #18 Joe Gibbs Toyota came in for tires on the last caution and blew by leader Jimmie Johnson to pick up his first win of the season. The race also saw the first ever 1-2 finish for Busch and his older brother, Kurt. Kyle Busch missed the first 11 races of the season after breaking his leg in the season opening XFINITY Series race at Daytona. It was the first time in 46 races that Busch won a Sprint Cup race. Busch won for the 30th time in his career and 2nd at Sonoma. Clint Bowyer finished third, followed by Kevin Harvick and Joey Logano. The top ten was rounded out by Jimmie Johnson, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Kasey Kahne, Ryan Newman, and Sam Hornish Jr. Jeff Gordon finished a disappointing 16th in his final race at Sonoma. Next week, the series heads back to Daytona for the 4th of July night race.
