Beshear Urges Department of Education to Maintain Campus Sexual Assault Survivors Protections

In the wake of the US Department of Education calling into question Title IX protections, Attorney General Andy Beshear stated his office will continue to seek justice for survivors of campus sexual assault. On Thursday, September 7, Education Secretary Betsy DeVos delivered remarks indicating that the department may not be as aggressive in fighting campus sexual assault and protecting survivors. Beshear responded that seeking justice for victims of campus sexual assault is a top priority for his office. Under Title IX, the Department of Education’s Office of Civil Rights’ current guidance instructs colleges on how to address and respond to sexual assault incidents.
