On Monday, September 18, Prestonsburg City Council had their Public Forum Meeting at the Mountain Arts Council. Among the updates given on projects from the past year, Mayor Les Stapleton announced a big project coming to downtown Prestonsburg. The city has signed a purchase agreement for the Music Carter Hughes building on South Lake Drive.
At this location, they plan to create a community center that will include two 100-seat movie theaters. While no date to start the project has been set, Mayor Stapleton did say that once they have the deed, they will begin looking at funding sources to get the center built.
Following the announcement of the of the upcoming community center in Prestonsburg, we talked with council member Brittainy Branham about the process to get this project started. We also asked Mayor Les Stapleton about what the funding plans were going to be to get the new center underway.
