At the Prestonsburg Open Forum Meeting held on September 18 at the Mountain Arts Center, Mayor Les Stapleton honored four individuals for their contributions to the city. Prestonsburg Police Officer Ross Shurtleff was presented with the Governor’s Award for 2017 Occupant Protection.

Steve Russo with the East Kentucky Science Center on the campus of Big Sandy Community and Technical college was recognized for his contribution with the historic solar eclipse coverage, which saw nearly 5,000 in attendance at the college.

Robert Moore and Gary Wright were both recognized as important parts of Small Town America for their contributions to the community.
