On Friday, October 20, 2017, the University of Pikeville and Big Sandy Community and Technical College signed a memorandum of agreement to develop a joint program with UPIKE’s school of Optometry. During the signing, University of Pikeville President Dr. Burton Webb spoke on the importance of collaboration. Dr. Sherry Zylka, President of BSCTC, said she was impressed with three students who met the requirements for priority registration with the program, adding it was a testament to the quality of instruction at Big Sandy.
