Around 1:30pm Tuesday, February 20, 2018, the Hazard Police Department received a report of an altercation with firearms involved in the vicinity of KFC on North Main Street. Upon arrival, officers located a man armed with an AR-15 rifle on the porch of a residence on King Street in a verbal altercation with his mother and step-father. The man laid his weapon down when instructed, but did not follow further commands and was taken into custody after officers used a less-than-lethal force option. The man was transported to Hazard ARH for psychiatric evaluation. Criminal charges are pending. Several firearms were removed from the premises pending the outcome of the investigation.
