The Department for Public Health is reminding Kentuckians to follow safety guidelines in the wake of severe flooding and water run-off throughout the state. Precautions recommended by DPH include cleanup workers in flood waters being up-to-date with tetanus vaccination before starting cleanup activities; never enter flood waters unless escaping immediate danger; stay clear of damaged power lines and evacuate areas if you smell a gas leak. When cleaning up, use proper protection. If you have power outages, keep freezers closed to help keep frozen food from going bad. Refrigerated foods should be sage as long as power is out for no more than four hours.
