On Friday, February 23, 2018, the Justice Department announced that Williams Curtis Howell, 61, a former supervisory deputy jailer at the Kentucky River Regional Jail in Perry County, had been sentenced to 120 months in federal prison. Howell was convicted on May 11, 2017 for his role in the assault of 54-year-old Larry Trent, who was a pre-trial detainee, who died as a result of his injuries and lack of medical attention. Howell must serve 85 percent of his prison sentence.
