Visitors to the Mountain Heritage festival yesterday were treated to a touching sight. Each year during the festival a rehabilitated animal is released back into nature. This year a broad tail hawk was re-released, after spending time being rehabilitated. Mitch Whitaker, who works with animal rehabilitation, said that they found the bird starved and have worked to get it healthy again. According to Whitaker four out of every 5 of these birds don’t survive their first winter, but he was glad to see this one fly free.
