Knox County Sheriff’s Office Warns of Social Security Scam

The Knox County Sheriff’s Office is warning of a Social Security Scam. The sheriff’s office has received calls reporting scammers claiming to be from the Social Security Administration, telling the victim there has been a computer problem and they need to confirm their Social Security number. The sheriff’s office is telling residents that if they get a phone call or are directed to a website other than ssa.gov claiming to be associated with the Social Security Administration, do not respond as it is likely a scam. If you received a call like this, report the call to the Social Security Administration’s Fraud Hotline at 1-800-269-0271.
