Whitesburg Couple Sentenced on Fraud Charges

A Whitesburg couple has been sentenced for defrauding Social Security and Medicaid programs. On Tuesday, April 16, 2019, Chief US District Judge Caldwell sentenced 63-year-old Harry Taylor and his wife, 64-year-old Betty Taylor, for conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud, theft of government funds, and falsifying and concealing a material fact in connection with health care benefits. They were found guilty at trial in September 2018 after evidence established they repeatedly misled the Social Security Administration about their financial resources in order to receive more than $40,000 in direct payments for Supplemental Security Income Disability benefits and more than $150,000 in Medicaid benefits they were not entitled to receive. They were sentenced to 30 months in federal prison.
