Governor Matt Bevin is recognized the sacrifice of a Fort Campbell solider who died in Syria while supporting Operation Inherent Resolve. According to the Department of Defense, 28-year-old PFC. Michael Thomason, from Lincoln Park, Michigan, died April 29, 2019, in Kobani Syria, of wounds sustained from a non-combat related incident. Pfc. Thomason was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 327th Infantry, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division Air Assault, Fort Campbell, Kentucky. Service arrangements are pending. Governor Bevin will direct flags at state facilities to be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset on the day of Pfc. Thomason’s internment.
