A Letcher County man was fatally wounded in a shooting involving Kentucky State Police Troopers the evening of Tuesday, May 21, 2019. Troopers with KSP Post 13 were attempting to locate Christopher Brown after receiving information that he was possibly operating a stolen vehicle in the area, and who was wanted for previous criminal offenses. Around 6:20pm, Troopers observed Brown in the parking lot of the Daniel Boone Motor Inn, from where he fled in a Jeep Cherokee, leading to a pursuit on KY 15 south to the Vicco community of Perry County, onto a strip mine road. Brown struck a trooper with his vehicle, at which time Troopers fired at the Jeep, fatally wounding Brown who was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Perry County Coroner. On Trooper was taken to Hazard Appalachian Regional Medical Center for treatment of injuries from being struck by the Jeep and was later released. No one else was injured.
