CSX is scaling down Corbin operations

A large rail road corporation is laying off 180 workers in an Eastern Kentucky community. The rail yard in Corbin had been seen as the economic backbone of the community. But CSX accounted that a drop in coal production and shipping has led them to decrease their labor force in the area to 100 workers. CSX plans to shutter their locomotive shop, service center and car shop in Corbin. The effected employees were granted two months of pay and benefits, and told they could be eligible for other positions in the CSX network.
