Nearly a week ago a neighborhood off Auxier road in Floyd County was awakened by police lights and gunfire. Prestonsburg city police chased 28 year old Robert Powers of Auxier to a relative’s house in the community, and when officers tried to subdue him he is alleged to have pulled out a gun and shot Officer Adam Dixon. After several hours of negotiation and planning the Kentucky State Police were able to remove Powers from the barricaded home and took him into custody. Yesterday Powers was arraigned, and bail was set at $250,000. His preliminary hearing has been scheduled for next week. Officer Dixon has received care for his injury and returned home.
