An alliance of citizen groups has won a major legal victory

The legal action claimed that Frasure Creek Mining had violated the Clean Water Act by duplicating water pollution monitoring reports. The action includes mines operated by Frasure Creek in Floyd, Magoffin, Perry and Pike Counties, and was settled with a 6 million dollar fine. As it stands The Corporation must pay 500-thousand up front and will have to pay 2.75 million before it can apply for a permit to mine in Kentucky. Frasure Creek is an extension of the Essar Group Corporation based in India.
