The Pike County Sheriff’s Office arrested a convicted sex offender at Valley Elementary School earlier this week, following concerns from a Family Resources employee who connected a man to the Kentucky State Police sex offender registry which lead to the arrest of Richard Bartley, 74, of Pikeville.

According to Chief Deputy Lynn Cross, Richard Bartley, was arrested in the parent pick-up line at the school.

Cross said there were no reported incidents involving any students on campus, adding that Bartley and his passenger were waiting to pick up a student at the time of the arrest. He said the sheriff’s office is always working to keep the county and its students as safe as possible.
