A local animal shelter received a grant to bring comfort to animals throughout the year.

It is not an easy job working at the Kentucky River Regional Animal Shelter especially with an unreliable heat pump.
Allie Mullins, a worker at the shelter, she says it can make daily tasks tougher.

“It would work for like two or three weeks and then go down and then we would have to bring somebody in to fix it and then it would work for a few weeks and then go down,” said Mullins. “If the heat goes down in the winter, water freezes up. You have to put extra blankets. It’s just so much extra work. The water buckets freeze. ”

That all changed when the shelter received a grant from Love 120 to purchase a new heat pump.

Tammy Noble, chairman of the shelter board, says all their hard work is paying off.

“It may not seem like a lot to a lot of other people however our old heat pump we had been repairing it for about five or six years,” said Noble. “We were ecstatic over it. We knew we feel like we do a job of taking care of our animals and really trying hard. ”

The shelter was one of three shelters in the state to receive the grant this year.

At the end of the day all with the hopes of providing better care to our furry friends.
