Police are looking for vandals that destroyed hundreds of dollars worth of Christmas decorations at the Eubank City Park in Pulaski County.

The Eubank City Park had taken on the holiday spirit…with lots of lights, inflatables, and other signs of the season. But recently vandals have had their way, cutting cords to expensive light display, punching holes in inflatables and creating expensive repairs to displays paid for through donations.

The damage was discovered Saturday when firefighters made a visit to the park and will cost hundreds of dollars to replace.
“I don’t understand why someone would want to tear it up. Trying to give something back to the community. You’ve got kids trying to tear stuff up,” said Chief Norman Rutherford, Eubank Fire Department.

Police are investigating and firefighters are searching their heads as to why this was done, especially since the park will be used next weekend to give all the kids in the community a major Christmas party and event with Santa Claus.

“Probably about 400-500 kids for breakfast, pancakes and sausage, with Santa Claus,” said Rutherford. “They cut the cords off the wires in between the lights. Got all back together, $700-$1,000 worth of damage? At least.”the vandals may have left behind some bottles of alcohol close to where the cords were cut.

“Probably about 500-600-foot rope lights wasted right now. We don’t have the stuff to put them back together,” Rutherford said.

The Eubank Police Chief said a reward is offered for information leading to an arrest. Despite the damage, every event that is scheduled for this weekend will still take place.
