New legislation could give the Lieutenant Governor more authority

Representative George Brown of Lexington proposed the bill that would establish the lieutenant Governor as president of the State Senate. The lieutenant Governor held this title prior to 1992 when new legislation stripped it. The bill also offers a clear line of succession if something were to prevent Kentucky’s top executives from performing their duties. Under the bill, the Attorney General would be next in line followed by the Auditor. According to Brown, this law would be in accordance with the original state constitution.
