Police say 29-year-old Jennifer Tritt left her kids at home with a man who was not capable of caring for them.
The youngest child only four-year-old ended up wandered along Highway 11 near Manchester just after midnight.
The child walked one mile from home, over railroad tracks and through water before a firefighter and a social worker found him.
Police say the little boy said he wandered out because he could not find his mom. Tritt said she left to give a friend a ride and thought the 4-year-old and a 9-year-old would be okay in the care of an older man.
Police also found a loaded shotgun on a bedroom floor, in the home.
