Poor shelter conditions are causing officials in one county to take pause

Over the past year, the Martin County Animal shelter has made the news for overcrowding, weather damage and lack of funding. With the recent cold snap, conditions at the shelter have rapidly deteriorated and volunteers are reaching out to County officials for help. Many of the animals are being housed in kennels outside of the main building, which are impossible to heat, and frozen pipes have exacerbated the problems. The shelter has asked the county from additional aide to ease their problems, but recent budget shortfalls have hampered their efforts.
