Gov. Beshear announces 159 cases, 7 deaths in Daily COVID-19 Update

Governor Andy Beshear announced Thursday that Kentucky now has 159 new cases, bringing the commonwealth’s total to 2,429.

One of those cases is a 10-day-old baby from Lincoln County.

Seven new deaths were also announced. The death toll is now 129.

956 Kentuckians have recovered from the virus.

Thursday’s conference comes as an employee at the Hazard/Perry County Walmart tested positive for the virus. That person lives in Knott County.

Whitley County health officials also confirmed their seventh case.

During Wednesday’s update protestors gathered outside an open window to loudly demand that state businesses be allowed to reopen as Govenor Beshear announced those who had passed due to coronoavirus and gave updates on the spread of the virus throughout the commonwealth.

Those protestors are now being told to stay in there cars to maintain social distancing.

Dr. Steven Stack, the commissioner for the Kentucky Department of Public Health, said in a Facebook post that the coronavirus spreads very fast through mass gatherings.

“This is a really difficult tension between peoples right to gather and people’s right to not be hurt and it’s tough. But the mass gathering that we saw yesterday is the public health orders that we say are prohibited right now,” said Dr. Stack, on Thursday

These protoctols were put in place immediately.
