Thursday COVID-19 Update

Thursday evening, Governor Andy Beshear gave his daily update regarding COVID-19 and its effect on the commonwealth.

The governor announced 174 new cases and five new deaths in Kentucky.

At least 4,708 Kentuckians have contracted the virus. With those numbers, the death toll is now at 240 with 1,675 people who have recovered from the virus in Kentucky.

Health officials in the Big Sandy Region announced new cases in the area.

One of them is an eight-year-old girl in Johnson County, another is a a 70-year-old man in Pike County, and Floyd County is now reporting 11 total cases.

Deputy Secretary of the Education Workforce Unempolyment Cabinet, Josh Benton, announced the state is continuing to work on unempolyment claims. He says they were able to clear an additional 1,050 of the 29,000 remaining initial March unemployment claims Wednesday. There are more than 27,000 March claims remaining. 8,000 people who applied in March but have not provided identity documents will receive a direct email Thursday night.

Officials also announced two Kentucky Air National Guard C-130s will fly over the Commonwealth Friday. The specific locations include Louisvile, Frankfort, Lexington, Pikeville, Bowling Green and Owensboro.
