Governor Andy Beshear announced a new spike in COVID-19 cases during his daily update Tuesday.
The governor announced the largest one-day case increase since the virus was first reported in the commonwealth, with 625 new cases.
309 of those cases are at the Green River Correctional Complex in Muhlenburg County. Health officials conducted focused testing at the facility, underscoring the possibility of significant under-reporting from a lack of testing, especially in closed environments.
Kentucky now has at least 5,822 cases. 61,013 Kentuckians have received tests which is low in comparison to Tennessee where 218,796 people have been tested.
Fourteen new deaths were reported. The death toll is now at 275.
2,058 people have recovered from the virus.
The governor announced that free testing will take place at Pikeville Medical Center on Tuesday through Thursday. No registration is required.
