Protests are planned in the cities of Pikeville and Paintsville for later today, June 1st, 2020. According to Facebook pages for each, the events are being labeled as “peaceful” demonstrations.

In Paintsville, the “#BlackLivesMatter Paintsville Protest” will begin at the Paintsville City Hall at 6:00pm. An event organizer said that demonstrators will march “around a couple blocks in town, chanting and holding posters, to make our message heard.”

In Pikeville, the event labeled “A Peaceful Gathering for Public Grief…” will start at 6:30pm in the Pikeville City Park. Demonstrators plan on marching to the Pikeville Police Department and holding a prayer session.

Social distancing is encouraged at both gatherings and participants are asked to wear masks to help avoid the spread of COVID-19.
