Thankful Hearts Food Pantry trailers destroyed in fire

Wednesday afternoon several fire departments responded to a call at the Thankful Hearts Food Pantry in Pikeville when their trailers with supplies caught fire, threatening the nearby buildings.

On their facebook, Jessica from Thankful Hearts Food Pantry wrote:

“We are going to need our community to come together now more then ever. Today, at approximately 1:30 parts of Thankful Hearts Food Pantry Inc. Caught fire. Everyone is safe, but the fire is still burning as I type this and almost all our fire Departments are here to help fight it. There is already $300,000 worth of damage or more! Trissia has lost multiple food pallets, clothes pallets, furniture, trailers, generators, cleaning supplies, school giveaway items, and more.”

Pantry workers say they were cleaning up the site for inspections and their burn pile got out of hand. They say they are blessed that no buildings were destroyed, but they lost four trailers and a school bus.

The trailers held all of the summer meal program supplies and other supplies needed for the pantry’s outreach programs.

The organization is accepting online donations to help recover some of the lost items, and they are hopeful to see the community donors step in to make sure the pantry can still fill that need this summer.
